Hugh F. McLaughlin, a former harness maker from Ireland, immigrates to the United States. He finds work as a craftsman for the venerable Boston furniture maker A.H. Davenport Company. After 10 years of tutelage with A.H. Davenport, Hugh decides to start his own upholstery company, aptly named Hugh F. McLaughlin Upholstery.
